Astrochart – What exactly is it? Does Astrology work?

Talk to 100 people, from different cultures and background, on the subject of Astrology, and you can expect that many will support Astrology (as an Advanced Science), many others will dismiss it (as a Superstition) and some will neither be here nor there, or say, half believing. What exactly is Astrology? This article presents my experiences on this very debate open subject.

Having studied the Indian/Vedic system of Astrology for over a decade, and researched on the extent of the impact (positions of planets in) a birth-chart had on my own life and on the life of many family members and friends, I can straight away state that the system does have some merit to it. However, does that mean that a birth-chart defines the exact contours of our life, with no possibility of any variation or deviation from what an Expert reader may state. Obviously not! A birth-chart is not an exact, pre-defined life plan, but more like a boundary within which you operate. A birth-chart is a map of your tendencies (flowing in as a continuum of your past Karma) and likely situations which are going to pop up in your life from time to time (as per your pre-defined soul-plan). While it may be very difficult for us to change those external situations which will pop up (as they are pre-defined by our soul’s plan), we can decide how we choose to act, as and when those situations do arrive. Our choices will indeed be influenced by our past Karmic tendencies, yet, we can out-do or out-smart those tendencies (if needed) by living a more aware, mindful and sensible life.

That we cannot do much about external situations, but, we can still lead a more purposeful and happier life, by using our free will to alter the way we are within (or inside) us, is the beauty of the whole system. Hence, no matter, how good or bad, external situations pop up in our lives, we can certainly control the extent of our inner bliss and happiness. It is true, that for some, the momentum of negative past Karmic tendencies, may make it more difficult to achieve inner bliss and happiness, but it is not true, that nothing can be done about it. Astrology, particularly, the Indian/Vedic system, always suggests remedies to overcome stressful or difficult periods. Without going into the merits of some of those remedies (as some are misleading and money mongering), the very fact that remedies are suggested, is clue enough, that by doing or living in a certain way, or by altering the way we are inside us, we can alter our state of being, irrespective of the external situation at hand.

Astrology then, in my view, is Super Science, having a strong mathematical core, but, what it defines for us, is not cast in stone. If defines our tendencies, and the likely external environment we will get in life (the boundary within which we will have to operate). Used in that way, to understand ourselves better, and thereby choosing to consciously align ourselves to our boundary, it serves as an excellent tool or guide to help us navigate the drama of life in a much more peaceful and purposeful way.

Those who dismiss Astrology as superstition or fake, perhaps miss off an excellent guide, that can help them live decidedly better. Those who take Astrology as fated, perhaps miss on many a opportunity to live more blissfully. Those who realize that its real usage lies in advancing the growth of our inner self, and use it accordingly, are the best positioned, so far as this great system is concerned.

In summary:-

  1. A Birth-Chart is NOT a cast-in-stone life plan.
  2. A Birth-Chart, however, DOES specify your tendencies, and likely external environment within which you will have to operate.
  3. Irrespective of point number 2, a Birth-Chart DOES not define the extent of your inner bliss and happiness, as that is largely a product of your conscious choices.

Now, if you think you can live a more mindful and aware life, without looking at an Astro-Chart, then Astrology is not really needed for you. If you are, for some reason, unable to live a more mindful and aware life, then, Astro-Chart can help you wonderfully, provided you approach it with the understanding as stated in this article.

I am all in favour of people taking help of Astrology, if needed, because, the system has helped me in realizing what I needed to do to be more blissful within myself. Yet, I must state again, an Astro-Chart is just a guide. How blissful or happy you are, depends largely on your choices :). Make the best of your choices, using Astrology as a guide!

It is really little hard to believe that astrology can’t predict the exact things that will happen. But, my opinion is that i have always faced consequences in life which was not possible to change. Whatever i tried to do, It was not possible to keep up. It was my Rahu dasa, and it was not good for me. You might know well.

Certain karmic impressions may be deep rooted, and to change them can indeed be quite difficult. For them, start stop remedies will not yield much results. In such situations, focused meditation and raising the level of one’s consciousness is a possible solution. Events in life have a direct co-relation with one’s consciousness!

thanks. I see. I would like to learn meditation, will have to meet a yoga guru for that. Have taken some books by a mystic, but it’s not easy to master the technique with a book as said in the book. But, i agree with the point in the article that it’s our actions which is important. Relying merely on the astro chart, and doing nothing will not yield results.
